In GIS, each object on a map (e.g. a hydrant) is linked to a single record in a table, which is part of a Layer.
This distinguishes GIS from most other graphical or CAD systems.
Viewing the Attribute Table is one of the basic activities of a GIS User.
What’s cool about the Table of Attributes?
Thanks to the data that can be viewed in the Attribute Table, you can, for example:
- Search for objects that meet the given criteria (search for hydrant oo ID: 555)
- Filter objects on the map (show me only red hydrants)
