An object is a single element of the real world represented in Spatial Information Systems.
An object is composed of:
- Geometry, i.e. the spatial representation. Different types of geometry can be distinguished (point, line and polygon)
- Attribute Values, a set of characteristic values for that Object. More about Attributes
Groups of Objects of the same class, gather into Layers.
In the following example:
An object (a single measurement point), consists of a Geometry (i.e. its location at a specific point in space) and Attribute Values (Milanówek Municipality, 909, TelWin, etc.).
Examples:
- The “Hydrants” layer probably consists of Objects: individual hydrants.
- The “National Parks” layer probably consists of 23 Objects: National Parks
